Description

A fun and inspiring workshop to create your own seaglass ring, necklace or bangle.  You can use your own seaglass finds or choose from the Porth Jewellery collections.  By the end of the session you will leave with your own piece of silver jewellery.

What will I learn?

You will be taught how to: make a necklace, ring or bangle to size; cut and file silver; solder settings; construct bezel settings; add texture to silver; set seaglass in a bezel setting.

What do I need to bring?

The cost of the workshop covers all materials required* as well as tea, coffee, soft drinks etc.

Lunch is not provided – please feel free to bring your own (there is a fridge you are welcome to use).  There are also a number of shops and cafes a short walk away.

Don’t forget your reading glasses if you need them as there is a lot of close up work!

(*Bangle – £15 supplement for extra silver cost, payable on the day. Please note in the comments when booking if you would like to make a bangle so Laura can bring the right materials.)

What should I wear?

Due to the nature of the tools and materials used in the class you are required to wear sturdy, closed toed shoes.  Hair must be tied back and please do not wear loose clothing or scarves; you may not want to get your nails done before the session!

Strictly no alcohol to be consumed before or during the workshop.

Pre-class work required

Seaglass selection
You are welcome to use your own seaglass.  Please send Laura a photo to check it is suitable at least a week before your class.

If would like to use a piece from the Porth Jewellery collection, please contact Laura a week before your class to discuss what you are looking for.

Contact Laura by email on hello@porthjewellery or via Instagram @porthjewellery

Making a gift

If you intend to make your piece as a gift for someone else, you will need to know the ring size or bangle size prior to the session.  Sizes cannot be changed after the class.  Bangle size information can be found here: porthjewellery.com/faqs/

About your tutor

Laura Talbot started Porth Jewellery in Summer 2018 after many happy hours ‘playing’ in her friends’ silversmith studio. She now works from her home studio in Falmouth creating unique pieces from specially selected seaglass uncovered during her beachcombing trips.

Accessibility

Entrance is via the Inspire Makers shop. The workshop space is on the ground floor, however there is a step up from the shop to the back rooms. As it is a Grade II listed building, some doorways and spaces are narrow and may not be suitable for wheelchair users.
