Handmade sterling silver ring cast from a wax carving with brass spinner.
Wax carving is a traditional jewellery making technique dating back to 3rd century BC. The design is sawn, filed and carved into a piece of jeweller’s wax. This is sent to to a caster to be cast in metal through the lost wax process. A mould is made around the wax which is then melted and drained away, leaving a shape to be filled with molten metal.
This ring is a one-off as a repeat mould was not made from the original wax carving.
