Books n Boxes
Ken Futers of Books n Boxes began bookbinding over 14 years ago when struggling to find a suitable book to use as a holiday journal. So began his journey of mastering the art of making his own, and all these years and many hundreds of books later, Ken still loves the craft of folding, stitching, gluing and binding a new book.
Additionally, he makes boxes from millboard, including slipcases, pen pots, pencil boxes, gift boxes and solanders, also called clamshell boxes. Ken covers his books and boxes with specialist papers, such as Japanese Chiyogami, old maps, sheet music and now his own hand-marbled paper. At Books n Boxes, Ken takes pride in creating handmade books and boxes that are as beautiful as they are functional. The beauty of a handmade item is in the attention to detail and the stories and memories that it holds. Ken is dedicated to preserving the art of traditional bookbinding and box-making and hopes to share his passion with you.
Many of Books n Boxes items are unique as Ken rarely makes the same item twice.
If you would like to learn this craft, Ken runs workshops at Inspire Makers on bookbinding and box making. Details of his upcoming bookbinding workshops are over on our workshops page.
