Description

A focused jewellery workshop on Keum-boo, the traditional Korean technique of fusing fine gold to silver. You’ll see examples in physical form and images of jewellers’ work before learning how to apply gold yourself.

You will get to explore the technique whilst making a flat piece of jewellery using fine silver sheet such as earrings or a pendant before moving on to a sterling silver ring-band and learning about depleting to bring fine silver to the surface.  At the end of the session you can add a black patina to your work if you wish.

You may wish to bring your own silver jewellery that you have made to experiment with.

Designed to expand your jewellery skills and methods of working, this range of “Skills Sessions” workshops will inspire your creative work and allow you to explore and play with new ideas. Each one is designed with a skill or tool focus.

Skills-based sessions will begin with looking at examples in physical form and images of other jewellers and artists work.  There will then be a demonstration followed by time to explore the process.  These are not about making a finished item of jewellery but playing with ideas.

Tool-based sessions will focus on using and exploring different tools in the workshop.  You will be taught how to use them safely and the possibilities they can bring when forming metal.  You can explore the scope for incorporating them in your work and experiment with ideas.

What do I need to bring?

The cost of the workshop covers tuition and all materials required as well as tea, coffee, soft drinks etc.

Don’t forget your reading glasses if you need them as there is a lot of close up work!

What should I wear?

Due to the nature of the tools and materials used in the class you are required to wear sturdy, closed toed shoes.  Hair must be tied back and please do not wear loose clothing or scarves; you may not want to get your nails done before the session!

About your tutor
