Description

In this workshop you will discover the dynamic technique of fold forming. You’ll begin by exploring inspiring examples – both in physical form and through images of other jewellers’ work – before watching live demonstrations of key folding methods. Then, with copper sheet as your canvas, you’ll have plenty of time to experiment with the skills and processes yourself, guided step by step. Whether you’re new to metalwork or looking to expand your techniques, this session offers the perfect opportunity to explore the sculptural possibilities of fold forming.

This session is not about making a finished item of jewellery but playing with ideas, however in the last hour you can choose to continue experimenting or adding ear wires, jump rings an attachments to your pieces to make them in to jewellery. Adding flame colouring and green patina to copper will also be cover in this session. Additional copper sheet and silver for findings is available to purchase on the day.

Designed to expand your jewellery skills and methods of working, this range of “Skills Sessions” workshops will inspire your creative work and allow you to explore and play with new ideas. Each one is designed with a skill or tool focus.

Skills-based sessions will begin with looking at examples in physical form and images of other jewellers and artists work.  There will then be a demonstration followed by time to explore the process.  These are not about making a finished item of jewellery but playing with ideas.

Tool-based sessions will focus on using and exploring different tools in the workshop.  You will be taught how to use them safely and the possibilities they can bring when forming metal.  You can explore the scope for incorporating them in your work and experiment with ideas.

What do I need to bring?

The cost of the workshop covers tuition and all materials required as well as tea, coffee, soft drinks etc.

Don’t forget your reading glasses if you need them as there is a lot of close up work!

What should I wear?

Due to the nature of the tools and materials used in the class you are required to wear sturdy, closed toed shoes.  Hair must be tied back and please do not wear loose clothing or scarves; you may not want to get your nails done before the session!
