What will I learn?

Get an introduction to slab building through making hand built cups and small bowls. The emphasis will be on creating textures, working with textiles, clay stamps, lettering stamps and embossed rollers. You will form vessels both free standing and also with the use of small press moulds and drape moulds. You will learn how to join with score and slip techniques and to refine your work.

Please note: The pots will need to dry slowly and thoroughly before bisque firing, glazing and then glaze firing. Sarah will do this at her pottery which will take up to 4 weeks. Work can be collected from Inspire Makers, Sarah at Red Gallery in Redruth, or posted out for a small P&P charge. Please let us know on the day which works best for you.

What do I need to bring?

The cost of the workshop covers all the materials required as well as tea, coffee, soft drinks etc.

Aprons are available for you to use however, as clay is involved, you may wish to wear clothes that can get messy!

Bring a particular texture if you want to try it!

About your tutor

Sarah Sullivan is a potter who creates deeply textured work. Her studio is in Redruth where she also has a small gallery – Red Gallery – selling other Cornish ceramicists. She offers longer ceramic courses from her studio.

Entrance is via the Inspire Makers shop. The workshop space is on the ground floor, however there is a step up from the shop to the back rooms. As it is a Grade II listed building, some doorways and spaces are narrow and may not be suitable for wheelchair users.
