Your tutor will guide you through the intricate process of lost wax carving, a technique renowned for its ability to transform ideas into stunning, wearable art. With her extensive experience and passion for jewellery design, Tamara will provide personalised attention, ensuring you gain a comprehensive understanding of this ancient craft.

What will I learn?

You will make your own ring design, discovering the types of lost wax, techniques and tools involved in this captivating art form.

You will learn how to translate your ideas into lost wax built up techniques with a spirit lamp and transform them into three-dimensional wax models.

After the workshop

Your pieces will be sent off to a casting service in Birmingham to be cast into sterling silver. They will then be cleaned up and polished by Tamara. This process takes some time and your finished ring will be posted to you within 3 weeks.

What do I need to bring?

The cost of the workshop covers tuition and all materials required as well as tea, coffee, soft drinks etc.  It includes casting into silver, polishing and posting.

Don’t forget your reading glasses if you need them as there is a lot of close up work!

What should I wear?

Due to the nature of the tools and materials used in the class you are required to wear sturdy, closed toed shoes.  Hair must be tied back and please do not wear loose clothing or scarves; you may not want to get your nails done before the session! Aprons are provided.

About your tutor

Tamara Gervasio, the creative force behind TG Jewellery is a true master of the lost wax carving technique. She studied for five years as a sculptor at the Institute of Art, then spent two years specialising as a wax carver and goldsmith in Rome. She moved to London in 1998 and has collaborated with many other goldsmiths and fashion designers such as Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood. Her focus is lost wax and all her pieces are hand-carved from a block of wax, using artisan tools that allow precise details for carving. TG Jewellery designs are based on the principles of repeated regular and irregular patterns.

Entrance is via the Inspire Makers shop. The workshop space is on the ground floor, however there is a step up from the shop to the back rooms. As it is a Grade II listed building, some doorways and spaces are narrow and may not be suitable for wheelchair users.

Please contact us before booking if you have any physical limitations which might impede your participation in and enjoyment of the class.
