By Article Jewellery

Add a bit of everyday sparkle with this rounded square shape fine silver paisley textured pendant necklace, featuring a suspended 4mm Swarovski crystal charm. The pendant comes with a removable 16 inch (40cm) 925 sterling silver chain, fastened by a bolt clasp. Pendant size approximately 38 x 20mm.

Handmade from fine silver metal clay, this pendant has been carefully rolled, textured, formed, dried and fired in a kiln to leave behind a solid silver piece with an organic feel and mix of polished and satin finishes. See details below for further information on the making process.

This necklace will come packaged in a matt grey, recyclable “Article Jewellery” gift box.

Welcome to my work! I’m Vicki, the owner of Inspire Makers and the maker behind Article Jewellery – let me tell you a bit more about it.

How it is made
Silver clay is an environmentally friendly material as it contains reclaimed silver from the waste of industries using silver. It is made of microscopic silver particles combined with water and an organic binder. Silver clay can be shaped by hand or by using moulds and cutters. It can also be intricately patterned by pressing a textured surface or hand carving into the soft clay. After drying and hand finishing, the clay is fired in a kiln at high temperature. This burns away the clay binder and fuses the tiny silver particles together to form a solid silver piece which is then hand polished.

I use both 925 and 999 silver clay depending on the piece. Fine Silver is 99.9% silver compared to Sterling Silver which is an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. The copper makes sterling silver harder and more durable but also causes the silver to tarnish faster over time. Fine silver jewellery should be handled with more care due to the purity and softness of the metal.

Most of my silver pieces are unique as the design depends on what inspires me on a making day. Even if I produce an “identical” piece it will not be quite the same as it may be cut from a different part of the pattern impressed into the clay – meaning each creation is truly individual! Please take a good look at the photos to check you are happy with the pattern on this item before purchase.

I usually work within the 7.78g weight limit over which silver must be hallmarked in order to keep prices more accessible for customers, therefore this item is not hallmarked.

Care of your silver jewellery
Silver jewellery responds well to being worn as the oils in your skin keep it looking shiny. Silver is best cleaned in lukewarm soapy water. Frequent polishing of silver with a soft dry cloth will help prevent tarnish – you can also use a specially impregnated silver polishing clothing. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels as they can cause scratching.
Always protect your jewellery from knocks, scratches, chemicals, sunlight and heat/cold. You should remove before showering, bathing or swimming. Avoid spraying perfume or applying creams directly onto your jewellery.
When not being worn, pieces should be individually placed in a pouch or within a soft lined box to stop them being scratched or tangled.
